STEP 1  PRE EMPLOYMENT SCREENING

The simplest first step to reducing workplace drug & alcohol problems is to Hair Drug test the successful new applicants before they commence work. This will by itself reduce  workplace Drug & Alcohol misuse problems by over 80%!

Policies and Procedures set out what is acceptable and what is unacceptable behaviour in the workplace.  Policies and procedures must be reviewed annually. There are constant law and precedent changes effecting how you can manage workplace drug problems. We illustrate some critical updates that need to be made to most existing policy and procedure documents:

a) Removal of  wording "Under the Influence of", "effected by" and "impaired by". (These are assessments of a persons cognitive ability and as such cannot be subjectively assessed posing a risk to the legal defensibility of managerial actions taken based on this wording.)

b) The Inclusion of Synthetic Cannabinoids & Synthetic drugs are important.

c) Inclusion of non-prescribed Anabolic Steroid use (common in workplace agression and bullying misconduct incidents )

d) Procedure inclusion of Suspicious substances found in the workplace.

e) Inclusion of "Medically diagnosed Drug or Alcohol addiction" to be treated as a medical condition.
